Hyderabad: The Congress party has initiated the process of selecting candidates for MLC positions under the MLA quota.
AICC Telangana In-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, along with TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at his residence on Wednesday and discussed potential MLC candidates.
The meeting, which lasted over an hour, primarily focused on the protocols that will guide the selection of these candidates.
Reports indicate that there was a conversation about how to streamline the candidate finalisation process, especially given the strong competition for MLC roles, to ensure the party avoids any challenges.
On March 29, five MLC seats will become vacant, prompting the Election Commission to issue a notification for their occupancy. The deadline for submitting nominations has been pushed to March 10. Of these five available MLC seats, one will be allocated to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), while the remaining four will go to the Congress Party.
The TPCC Core Committee has begun the process of candidate selection for these four seats. A meeting with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was conducted as part of this initiative.
Reports indicate that the TPCC plans to hold another meeting, likely due to the large volume of applications received for the MLC positions.
Meenakshi Natarajan has conducted a review with leaders from the Medak and Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituencies and has shared the feedback from this review with the Chief Minister.
The party appears to be contemplating the possibility of offering MLC positions solely to those who demonstrate loyalty to the Congress party. In light of this, the upcoming meeting has taken on significant relevance considering the influx of applications received by the TCCC.
On the other hand, a cabinet meeting is set to take place on Thursday. Sources indicate that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy may travel to Delhi once more to confer with the high command regarding cabinet decisions and the selection of MLC candidates.
